According to the American Press Institute, journalism is ” the activity of gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting news and information.”

For a journalism major like me, journalism is that and much more.

Journalism is ethics and values that all professionals in the field share.

Is the responsibility “the fourth state” has as its role to keep in check those in power of govern the people of this country.

Ken Auletta, from The New Yorker told KPBS, “They gave the First Amendment as a way of giving a fourth branch of government — in fact, the press — an ability to question those in power in any of those three branches of government.”

And it is indeed a journalist’s role to give people the sufficient information needed to self-govern.
